Sharper, feeling richer, and driving smarter than before, the BMW 2 Series is back!

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Launched In India At Rs 46.9 Lakh highlights

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has officially been launched in India at Rs 46.9 lakh (ex-showroom). Still positioned as BMW’s most affordable sedan in the country, this compact four-door coupe has always been a niche choice, one that prioritises sporty appeal and urban luxury over outright practicality.

The new version doesn’t break tradition, but it does evolve the formula with more features, improved ride quality, and subtle styling updates. Let’s get into the details.

2025 2 Series Gran Coupe: Design

It’s still the 2 Series you recognise, but now with more presence. The front grille gets an illuminated outline (yes, it lights up!), flanked by adaptive LED headlights with animated DRLs that double as indicators. The front bumper gets more aggressive cuts and a sporty M-flavour, without going overboard.

In profile, the car continues to wear its coupe cues proudly, with a sloping roofline, sharp character lines, and 18-inch alloy wheels. BMW’s also raised the ground clearance by 19 mm without compromising the low-slung stance. At the rear, you’ll find sleeker LED tail lights with arrow detailing and a cleaner overall look.

Traditionalists will appreciate the return of proper pull-type door handles, no pop-out drama here.

2025 2 Series Gran Coupe: Interior

Step inside, and the 2 Series Gran Coupe still feels unmistakably BMW, taut, premium, and solid. The use of soft-touch materials on the dashboard improves the tactile quality compared to some of its stablemates. Frameless doors, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof add to the occasion.

You get powered front seats (with memory for the driver), while the rear is best reserved for average-sized adults. There’s some extra headroom thanks to a scooped-out roof section, but this still isn’t a car designed for chauffeured comfort. Boot space is rated at 430 litres, with a space-saver spare tyre tucked underneath. The split-folding rear seats (40:20:40) allow more versatility for cargo.

This update also follows the new BMW interior language and, following that, it now gets the toggle-type gear selector.

2025 2 Series Gran Coupe: Features

This one comes well-armed with a long list of premium features that tick most boxes for modern luxury car buyers. Taking centre stage is a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, both offering crisp graphics and a seamless interface. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come as standard, and audio duties are handled by a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system that delivers rich, immersive sound.

You also get a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, and a digital key that can be shared with up to four users. Comfort is managed by dual-zone climate control with rear AC vents, and the cabin comes trimmed in leather-free upholstery for a more sustainable luxury experience.

Other highlights include a head-up display with augmented navigation and ambient lighting. However, there are still a few omissions, most notably, ventilated front seats are missing, which feels like a missed opportunity at this price point. Additionally, the climate controls are now tucked into the touchscreen interface, which, while sleek, isn’t the most driver-friendly setup on the move.

2025 2 Series Gran Coupe: Powertrain

Here’s where things get a bit controversial. The new 2 Series Gran Coupe in India is offered with a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 153 PS and 230 Nm, down from the previous-gen’s 2-litre four-cylinder.

On paper, that’s a step back. But in practice, this engine is tuned to be city-friendly, fuel-efficient, and smooth. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, it delivers a 0-100 kmph time of around 8.6 seconds and claims 16.35 kmpl fuel efficiency.

The switch to regular tubeless tyres (instead of run-flats) has improved the ride comfort significantly. Handling is still sharp, and the DCT gearbox is crisp in Sport mode. What’s missing? Aural drama and that “punch” you expect when paying this much for a BMW.

2025 2 Series Gran Coupe: Safety

The updated 2 Series comes well-equipped on the safety front, offering a comprehensive suite of active and passive features. It packs seven airbags, including a central front airbag for added occupant protection, along with essentials like ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and traction control.

Manoeuvring is made easier with front and rear parking sensors, complemented by a high-resolution 360-degree surround-view camera.

It also gets a handful of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward and rear collision warnings, and a safe-exit warning that alerts occupants to oncoming traffic before opening the doors.

BMW has also included some clever bits like the Reversing Assistant, which can automatically retrace your last 50 metres in reverse, and the Drive Recorder, essentially an onboard dashcam using the surround-view cameras. Auto-parking assist adds another layer of convenience in tight spots.

However, adaptive cruise control is still missing from the list, and the collision warning system can be a little too enthusiastic in typical Indian traffic, occasionally triggering panic braking in situations that don’t really call for it.

2025 2 Series Gran Coupe: Variants, Pricing And Rivals

The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is available in multiple trims, including M Sport variants with sportier exterior elements and interior touches. The introductory pricing starts at Rs 46.9 lakh (ex-showroom), and goes all the way up to Rs 48.9 lakh for the top-spec Pro variant.

It continues to take on other products from its German rivals, with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine and the Skoda Superb L&K.

ZigSays…

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe still isn’t for everyone, and that’s the whole point. It’s for those who want a sporty, compact, luxury sedan that doesn’t look or feel generic. While the downsized engine may take away some emotional appeal, the rest of the package, design, features, and driving feel do a lot to make up for it. If you’re buying with your heart (and a bit of logic), the new 2 GC is still a solid indulgence.
