Owning a Tesla Model Y is all set to get more accessible as the automaker has announced its new ‘Switch and Save’ programme for the electric SUV. This new campaign is the first of its kind to be officially announced by the American electric carmaker in India, since its arrival last year. Tesla Switch And Save Program: What is it? 

Under the special campaign, Tesla is offering an exchange bonus of up to Rs 3 lakh on the Model Y for customers who trade in their petrol and diesel cars. Furthermore, the campaign promises a lower easy monthly installment (EMI) of Rs 49,000 after a down payment of Rs 6 lakh on the electric SUV. 

Tesla also claims that you can save up to Rs 20,000 per month when you drive the Model Y through reduced fuel and maintenance costs. The automaker has come to this figure by comparing the fuel and maintenance cost of a similar sized luxury ICE vehicle that’s driven about 1,500 km a month. The company says this brings the effective ownership cost to around Rs 29,000 per month on the Model Y. 

What’s In It For You? 

The easy EMIs aim to make the Model Y more accessible for a wider customer base. Both models offer a better price proposition in comparison to the Model Y. That said, the American EV scores big on exclusivity and offers a completely different user experience over its rivals. 

Moreover, Tesla has sweetened the deal by offering a complimentary wall connector on the Model Y, making it even more cost effective. The company says the cost of charging at home comes to as low as Rs 1 per km. 

The latest offers will attract several buyers who were lurking around Tesla dealerships. It may even help buyers fast-track their purchases to avail to maximise savings. This is less about conquest sales and more about conversion, pulling existing mid- to premium-segment ICE owners into the EV ecosystem.

About Tesla Model Y

The Model Y is Tesla’s debut model for the Indian market, and features a clean and minimal design language, a long wheelbase, and a massive cabin. The styling, too, is distinctive and a head-turner on the road. 

The Model Y Standard comes with a claimed range of 500 km (WLTP) on a single charge, and can hit 0-100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds. On the other hand, the Long Range variant with a bigger battery offers a range of 661 km (WLTP) on a single charge, and is faster from 0-100 kmph at 5.6 seconds. 

Its feature-list includes acoustic glass, electrically adjustable and ventilated seats, and a large 16-inch touchscreen system. The cabin remains minimalistic and has minimal buttons with most major functions operable via the touchscreen. There are buttons on the steering wheel, which can be customized for specific functions. The Model Y also gets an 8-inch touchscreen at the rear, along with reclining rear seats. 

Other features include a 9-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, eight exterior cameras with the Sentry mode, a fixed panoramic glass roof, heated steering and windshield, an air purifier, and a wireless phone charger. The Model Y is big on space and offers up to 2,100 litres of boot space.

Tesla Model Y: Price And Rivals

The Tesla Model Y is the automaker’s sole offering in India. The electric SUV is priced from Rs 59.89 lakh(ex-showroom) for the Standard and Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Long Range variants. Here is its pricelist:
