Mercedes-Benz has given its flagship sedan, the S-Class, a major facelift just 3 years after the introduction of the latest generation. Iconic in its own way, the S-Class badge will now feature heavily reworked styling, an overhauled interior and a lot of cool new technology. Let’s take a look at what has changed:
Starting from the design updates, the S-Class now features a bolder exterior with a lot of reworked elements to make it feel more modern. There is an all-new front fascia with a larger illuminated grille, new bumpers with larger air dams and an optional illuminated hood ornament as well.

You also get to see new headlamps with a tri-star DRL signature, which offer a unique look.

The side profile, however, sees fewer changes and still retains the curvy roofline, flush door handles and chrome accents all over for a grand and opulent look.

With this facelift, Mercedes has also offered optional 20-inch 50-spoke aluminium alloy wheels, which are made using an innovative ‘High Pressure Casting’ process.

The rear-end styling, too, has been brought in line with other recent models from the carmaker’s sedan lineup, like the E-Class, and now gets a tri-star detailing inside the taillamps, besides a slightly tweaked bumper.

It is inside the cabin, where Mercedes has made the most significant changes, with a completely new dashboard layout like the EQS, with the massive MBUX superscreen setup. You also have a new steering wheel with physical scrollers replacing the ‘haptic’ controls from the pre-facelift.

Just like before, the occupants remain cocooned in opulence, with swathes of high-quality leather, wood and aluminium lining the interior. It also gets an optional four-seat layout with individual recliners for rear occupants, along with a dedicated centre console and controls for the rear-mounted screens as well.

The S-Class has always stood for introducing ground-breaking technology, and this facelift continues that legacy with features such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with 3D effect, a 14.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with updated MB.OS, 12.3-inch passenger display, dual 13.1-inch screens for rear occupants, a 1750W 39-speaker Burmester 4D sound system, multiple wireless chargers, heated front seatbelts, powered AC vents and facial recognition.

Under the hood, the facelifted S-Class gets a few changes to its global engine lineup with an updated V8 and six-cylinder engines. However, we expect the Indian version to continue with the same 3-litre turbo-petrol and 2.9-litre diesel engines, albeit with a minor power bump. Here are the specifications of the current S-Class:

While Mercedes-Benz has not revealed the launch date yet, expect the new S-Class to arrive in India in the first quarter of 2027. It is likely to see a minor price increase, and is expected to start at Rs 2 Crore (ex-showroom).

The S-Class continues to have rivals in the form of other flagship luxury sedans like the BMW 7 Series, Porsche Panamera and the Maserati Quattroporte.
The S-Class may be called the best car in the world, and it is no surprise why. As usual, Mercedes has once again outdone itself to keep its flagship at the pinnacle of luxury and opulence, and we expect it to still remain the number one choice of the oligarchs, politicians and millionaires of this world despite the eye-watering price tag.
