Pre-launch bookings tally is an indicator of things to come, and the Maruti Jimny and Fronx are set to unravel a storm in their respective segments when they finally get launched in India. The two SUVs have garnered a total of over 39,000 bookings ever since their respective order books opened back in January.

As it stands, more than 15,500 people have already put down their name for the sub-compact SUV, while the Jimny has received over 23,500 orders. An impressive feat, to say the least, given that pre-bookings have been underway for just a couple of months.

Both the SUVs have started reaching dealerships ahead of their expected launches in April (Fronx) and May (Jimny).

We reckon Maruti will price the Jimny from around the Rs 10-lakh (ex-showroom) mark, while the Fronx could be retailed from Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. The sub-four meter SUV will take the fight to the likes of the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Nexon, while Jimny will offer a more practical alternative to off-roading SUVs like the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
