We had announced back in May 2021 that British supercar marque McLaren will begin its India innings with three supercars” the 720S, the Artura and the GT. And now, the first McLaren GT unit has arrived in India as a gift to Bollywood superstar Kartik Aaryan from the Managing Director of T-Series, Bhushan Kumar.
So what will Kartik Aaryan get with the McLaren GT that first broke cover globally in May 2019? Well for starters, it’ll combine supercar thrills with the comforts of a grand tourer. For the former, it comes via the a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol motor making 620PS and 630Nm. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch SSG transmission, it can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 3.1 seconds and tops out at 326kmph.
Being a grand tourer, being comfortable while driving does take some importance. As such, the McLaren GT gets a double wishbone suspension setup and special engine mounts to reduce chassis noise and improve comfort. That being said, you can still have some fun with three driving modes: Comfort, Sport, and Track. It’s also lightweight for its segment, weighing in at just 1,530kg.
As far as looks go, it's very much a modern McLaren with that traditional hammerhead nose and muscly rear end. The rear fenders double up as side air intake for the mid-mounted engine. The standout bit is undoubtedly the 20-inch front and 21-inch rear alloy wheels which are the biggest on a McLaren.
What really gives it its grand touring credentials lies inside, starting with electronically adjustable and heated seats that seem to have plush padding. It also has McLaren’s most advanced infotainment system, with the driver using the 7-inch central touchscreen to access features like media streaming, satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, heating and ventilation controls as well as voice commands.
And finally we come to how much dough had to be shelled out to purchase the McLaren GT. While we’re yet to know what optional packages were added to this model, we do know that the car retails at prices starting from Rs 4.5 crore without any optional add-ons.
