Fully built units of the hatchback are being shipped from the Kamarajar Port in Chennai

After making a splash in India, Citroen has now begun shipping the C3 overseas to countries in Africa and South East Asia (ASEAN countries). The made-in-India units of the hatchback will be exported as completely built-up units (CBUs). The C3 exported to African and ASEAN regions is closely related to the India-spec model; the C3 is also sold with different features and powertrains in Latin American countries.

“Kamarajar Port meets all of Citroën's requirements to export vehicles from India as part of its internationalization strategy. A port of significant importance in India’s sea logistics ecosystem, the Kamarajar Port will be used to export made-in-India Citroën vehicles from the Smart Car platform to the world. We are looking forward to a cooperative and successful working relationship with KPL to achieve the highest level of on-time delivery at competitive costs.” – Guy Lederer, Stellantis Head of Supply Chain and Logistics for India and Asia Pacific.

The C3 is a Maruti Swift rival in India and other countries alike. It’s a spacious, large hatchback equipped with features such as a 10.2-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, manual AC, a digitised instrument cluster, dual airbags and rear parking sensors.

It’s powered by an 82PS 1.2-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine as standard, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. The C3 is also offered in India with a 110PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a six-speed manual gearbox. The C3 doesn’t get any automatic option in India, but in Brazil it’s offered with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The India-spec C3 also gets an all-electric version called the eC3, with up to 320km of range and a 57PS e-motor.

With the C3 becoming more popular, we can expect Citroen to tweak and enhance the hatchback’s features list using ready tech and components from overseas markets. For us gearheads, this should result in a wealth of aftermarket parts and modifications as enthusiast technicians in different countries come up with new ways to enhance the C3.

Currently, the C3 retails from Rs 6.16 lakh to Rs 8.25 lakh (ex-showroom) and rivals the Grand i10 Nios and Tata Punch.
