Citroen has introduced the C3X as the new range-topping variant in the C3 lineup. The update introduces subtle cosmetic enhancements, new features, and a price reduction of Rs 98,000 compared to the pre-updated C3. But do these updates make it a stronger contender against Tata’s micro-SUV, the Punch? Let’s find out as we compare the C3X and the Punch in terms of pricing, features, and specs.

The Citroen C3X undercuts the Punch by nearly Rs 95,000 for the entry-level variant. Even for the top-spec trims, it remains more affordable by about Rs 1.4 lakh. This price advantage could be appealing to budget-conscious buyers, given the feature updates Citroen is offering with the C3X.

The Citroën C3X is 154 mm longer and features a 95 mm longer wheelbase, which should provide additional legroom for rear passengers. The Punch, on the other hand, is marginally wider and noticeably taller, which could give it a more upright seating position, along with a better road presence with an SUV-like stance.

Both models pack all the essential equipment, including a large infotainment screen, automatic climate control, and wireless phone charging. That said, if safety features are your priority, the Citroën C3X edges ahead with six airbags and a 360-degree camera. The Punch, however, counters with features aimed at convenience, such as a sunroof and a better-equipped sound system. Notably, the Punch has scored a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test.

With the Citroen C3X, you get the option to choose between a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine or a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. The former delivers 82 PS and 115 Nm, while the latter generates 110 PS and up to 205 Nm. Transmission options for the NA petrol unit include only a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the turbocharged unit is available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

The Punch, on the other hand, is available only with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 88 PS and 115 Nm. You can choose between a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. Both the C3X and the Punch are also available with a CNG kit option.
Citroen’s C3X makes a strong case with its competitive pricing, bigger size, additional powertrain option, and enhanced safety features. On the other hand, the Tata Punch leans on its proven market presence, muscular styling, and the added convenience tech. Overall, the C3X turns out to be not only a value-driven choice but also one if you want a more potent turbo-petrol engine choice. For the Punch, meanwhile, the things that work are its micro-SUV offering, along with a couple of additional convenience niceties.
