Both SUVs are offered with only a single powertrain option, but, does the X-Trail's comeback in India give the Meridian a tough fight? Let’s find out.

Nissan has re-entered the mid-size SUV market on our shores with the fourth-generation X-Trail, which has been in the global markets since 2020. One of its prime competitors in the same segment is the Jeep Meridian, which has been on sale in India since 2022. While the prices of the X-Trail are yet to be announced, if you are considering either of these three-row SUVs, we have made things easier for you by highlighting how they compare on paper.

Both SUVs are loaded with features, yet the X-Trail falls short compared to the Meridian in terms of additional niceties. The Meridian offers a larger infotainment unit, a superior audio system, and extra safety features like a tyre pressure monitoring system. Additionally, the Meridian comes equipped with an optional 4x4 drivetrain, which is’t available even as an option with the X-Trail. But if you like big wheels, then the X-Trail will serve you better with its 20-inch alloys, compared to the Meridian’s 18-inch units.

Both the X-Trail and the Meridian are offered with only a single powertrain option, but the Jeep Meridian gets more options in terms of drivetrain with the option of all-wheel drive.

The X-Trail comes with a petrol engine, whereas the Meridian is available with a diesel powertrain. In terms of power figures, the Meridian outperforms the X-Trail and also offers a manual transmission option, while the X-Trail is available only with a CVT automatic transmission.

Nissan X-Trail vs Jeep Meridian: Pricing

Jeep Meridian starts from Rs 33.77 lakh and goes up to Rs 39.83 lakh (ex-showroom). Nissan is yet to announce the prices for the X-Trail, but because it is going to be a fully imported unit, it is likely to carry a steeper price tag that could start from around the Rs 40 lakh mark. Besides competing with each other, they also rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, and VW Tiguan.

Nissan X-Trail vs Jeep Meridian: Verdict

To conclude, the Meridian appears to be the better product of the two in this on-paper comparison. It outperforms the X-Trail in terms of size, features, and power output. It is also offered with an all-wheel drivetrain, which may be appealing to people who like a little bit of off-roading.

But if you simply want an SUV that gets all the basics right and will be comfortable for a family of 5, then you won’t go wrong with the X-Trail either. Ultimately, it comes down to your preference - a big American SUV or a simple going Japanese SUV.
