  • Updated Tata Tigor EV to soon be available for private buyers.
  • Nexon EV’s Ziptron powertrain likely to develop around 100PS in Tigor EV.
  • Should have an ARAI-claimed range of over 300km.
  • Gets nicer bits such as LED DRLs, projector headlamps, and probably the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment.
  • It’s likely to be priced from around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Motors has teased the facelifted Tigor EV with the much more powerful Ziptron powertrain. The updated electric sedan, currently sold as the XPres-T EV for fleet customers, will soon be available for private buyers.

Since the Tigor is one of the carmaker's entry-level models, Tata could detune the Tigor EV’s electric motor to produce around 100PS, compared to the Nexon EV’s 129PS output. Nevertheless, performance should be more than adequate thanks to the electric motor’s instantaneous response. The battery pack, though, is likely to be the same 30.2kWh unit as the Nexon EV.

As far as driving range is concerned, we expect the electric sedan to offer an ARAI-claimed figure of over 300km. The battery pack should support fast charging, with an expected 0-80 percent charging time of around an hour.

The design may be quite similar to the XPres-T, however, the updated Tigor EV will get nicer embellishments. It will feature LED DRLs, projector headlamps, and 14-inch steel wheels with plastic covers (with blue inserts) shaped to look like alloy wheels. All of this hints at the availability of a fully loaded top-spec trim.

It should feature a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry with push-button start, automatic climate control, Harman sound system, and electrically adjustable ORVMs. Passenger safety should be taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.

The updated Tigor EV, which will slot below the Nexon EV, will be Tata’s entry-level electric model when it goes on sale soon. It’s likely to be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 14 lakh, which should make it more accessible for those looking for an affordable long-range EV.
