The bikes are inspired by the REs from the World War II

Royal Enfield 350 Redditch Red

Royal Enfield has introduced the Classic 350 Redditch series at a price tag of Rs 1,46,093 (On-road, Delhi). The bike has been introduced with three colours that evoke the paint scheme on the Royal Enfields of the 50s-era, which were produced in Redditch, UK. The three variants are named as; Redditch Red, Redditch Green and Redditch Blue.Though launched, the interested customer will only be able to book these bikes only after January 7, 2017, across all the RE dealerships in India.

Rudratej Singh, President, Royal Enfield, said “Royal Enfield launched the Classic in 2008 based on its popular ‘J2’ model,  as our brand has always taken inspiration from its rich heritage to come up with evocative motorcycles in the modern era. The Classic then became one of the most loved motorcycles from Royal Enfield. Looking back into our decades-old legacy, we have given Classic a makeover taking cues from the motorcycles produced at Redditch, Royal Enfield’s birthplace UK. In 2017, we are bringing the Classic 350 in - Redditch Red, Redditch Green and Redditch Blue that re-imagine shades on our 1950’s motorcycles that first came out of Royal Enfield plant in Redditch, a town steeped in British motorcycle build tradition. The introduction of the Redditch series on Classic 350 is a reinforcement of the Classic franchise and its huge success across all our markets. The Royal Enfield Redditch series will be available at Rs 146093 (on-road Delhi)”

As Singh has said that a lot of RE bikes have taken inspiration from the pre-World War II Enfield motorcycles -- the Classic range being the biggest example. So, it seems like, in order to keep those nostalgic machines alive in current-gen RE motorcycles, the company keeps on introduced bike like the Redditch series and the limited edition Dispatch series from time to time.

“Apart from the new colours from the 1950’s, the 2017 Redditch series will feature the Royal Enfield Redditch monogram, first used in 1939 on the prototype of 125cc ‘Royal Baby’, a 2-stroke motorcycle. The use of the original Redditch monogram makes the Redditch series more special as it revives our association with the motorcycles produced out of Redditch in that era,” added Singh.

Back in the days, Royal Enfield had plans to launch the Royal Baby – a 125cc motorcycle – for civilian use, however, the outbreak of the WWII forced the British armed forces to adopt it as their fleet motorcycle. The motorcycles were airdropped into enemy territory using parachutes to support airborne troops. The bikes were painted in olive green and earned a nickname ‘Flying Flea’. The bikes also carried the RE winged monogram, which is now very popular.
