  • The QYI comes with traditional Kia design elements like the Tiger Nose grille.
  • Presence of red elements in the design could hint at the possibility of a GT Line trim.
  • The QYI will most likely be based on the Venue and could utilise its powertrains.
  • Production-spec model expected to launch between July and December 2020.

Kia Motors India has officially teased the QYI sub 4-metre SUV’s exterior design via multiple sketches. The QYI will be Kia’s third car for India after the Seltos and Carnival. It’ll be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020 and the production-spec model is expected to be launched between July and December 2020. Prototypes of the upcoming SUV have already been spotted in the country and we must admit it looks similar to its concept. Let’s have a closer look, shall we?

As seen in all Kia cars, the front end of the QYI comes with the trademark ‘tiger nose’ grille. It merges with the sleek headlamps which come with funky DRLs. Below the headlamps sit a pair of large air dams, giving the SUV plenty of presence. We could also notice the use of silver elements in the bumper for a rugged appeal.

In profile, the QYI’s comes with an upright silhouette thanks to the sharply raked A-pillar. Elements like the flared wheel arches and silver trim on the shoulder line add plenty of character. The presence of dual-tone alloys and red elements suggest that the QYI could get a sporty GT Line variant like the Seltos. Moving on to the rear, the QYI’s design sketches previews the use of connected tail lamps and a sporty bumper design.

The Kia QYI will most likely be based on the Hyundai Venue and might utilise the same engine options as well. One can expect an 83PS 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine, a 125PS 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit and a detuned version of the Kia Seltos’ 1.5-litre CRDI engine.

The Kia QYI is expected to be priced above the Hyundai Venue, which starts from Rs 6.55 lakh. When launched, it will lock horns with the Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
