The Jeep Compass looks all set to sell like hot cakes. In case you’re fearing a long waiting period, you can reserve one. The SUV can be booked online or at an official showroom for a token amount of Rs 50,000. The manufacturer has also confirmed that it will be made available in three variants - Sport, Longitude and Limited.

The Compass is made in India, at Fiat’s Ranjangaon facility. It will be made available with two engine options - a 1.4-litre turbo-charged petrol, and a 2.0-litre diesel. The petrol motor develops 164PS and 250Nm, whereas the diesel is good for 173PS and 350Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic for the petrol, and a 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic for the diesel. Notably, the diesel automatic won’t be available at the outset and is likely to be launched by the year-end.

Both engines can be had with the option of a 4x2 or a 4x4 drivetrain. The four-wheel-drive Compass gets Jeep’s ‘Selec-Terrain’ wizardry that lets one choose between off-road modes such as Snow, Sand, and Mud other than the Auto mode. It also gets a barrage of safety tech that includes six airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, hill start assist and panic brake assist.

We are already receiving an overwhelming response to our new SUV. We have pulled out all stops to deliver the highest quality standard on the Jeep Compass and we are here to set a benchmark in the Indian SUV space. Customers will experience first-hand, the level of sophistication in the vehicle. Those interested can book our Made in India Jeep SUV online or at any of our FCA and Jeep Dealer network across India.”
The baby Jeep is expected to be priced super competitively and will fall in the Rs 18 lakh - Rs 25 lakh bracket. With that kind of pricing, it will take on everything from a Hyundai Tucson to a Tata Hexa and the Mahindra XUV500.
