Ramakrishna Race Performance Management (RRPM), has announced that the MRF FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship will commence on July 23, 2016, and continue till December. The Kolkata-based promoter of the event has said that this year's race will see even more excitement for enthusiasts and spectators.
RRPM will work in conjunction with MRF Tyres, Mahindra Adventure, Polaris and Pincon since they are the key sponsors for the upcoming Indian rally season. MRF Tyres is the title sponsor of the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) and Indian Rally Championship (IRC), while Mahindra Adventure and Polaris are the associate sponsors. The Kolkata-based Pincon Group is a major sponsor for the Indian National TSD (Time-Speed-Distance) Rally Championship (INTSDRC), while also being an associate sponsor of the INRC and IRC.
INRC/IRC – Both these rallies follow the speed rally format, in which the team that completes the race in the least amount of time wins. Most parts of the rallies take place on off-road routes in this very competitive format.
INTSDRC – This format is deemed the safest for this motor sport. In this, the teams are required to complete a particular segment of the race within a given time and on a particular, set speed.
Tamosha Dutta, director, RRPM, stated on the occasion, “MRF is already an active promoter and supporter of motorsports with a number of initiatives in the domestic and international arena. We are excited that MRF has consented to be a partner and we are confident that this will be the start of a long relationship.”
She further added, “We are pleased to have on board a number of others who are passionate about the sport. Mahindra Adventure over the last few years has been very seriously associated with rallying, from organizing TSD events to winning the IRC with their rally team. Polaris again has been actively involved with rallying through their rally team, which won a major cross country rally last year. Finally, Pincon Group started its relation with Indian motorsports this year by sponsoring Amittrajit Ghosh to a podium finish in his maiden entry in the British Rally Championship and wants to continue and increase their involvement with motorsports in India over the coming years. Together with MRF Tyres, Mahindra Adventure, Polaris and Pincon Group, we foresee great things for Indian rallying."
The president of the FMSCI, Zayn Khan, said, “I am very happy that RRPM is promoting the INRC and IRC this season. Rallying has suffered from a lack of full-fledged support from sponsors and promoters for a few years and now I think I can safely say that it seems behind us. Rallying equates with probably the purest form of motorsport and a layman identifies with the vehicles competing. Therefore I am very happy that this discipline will now get the required impetus and grow from strength to strength on a yearly basis.”
Along with the flag-off date, the 2016 rally calendar was also announced for the INRC, the IRC, and the INTSDRC. With the first round beginning from Coimbatore and will be concluding in the northern region of the country -- with the finals of the INTSDRC.
This year’s championship will also see the debut of a practice rally round, named Shakedown, for all the participants. The event will also see some of the best rally drivers in the country as participants, which will include Gaurav Gill, Amittrajit Ghosh, Sunny Sidhu, Arjun Rao Aroor, Rahul Kanthraj, Karna Kadur, and others. These top-seeded drivers will also ferry celebrities and media persons for a couple of kilometres to let them taste the action.
