It is based on the evolution of the Sensuous Sportiness design language

Hyundai's Prophecy EV is a salute to concept cars of the past and a taste of what's to come in the future. Justifying its name, it has all the design cues of a futuristic vehicle and has some elements which could make it to production in the later Hyundai cars.

Hyundai first teased us with glimpses of the concept on February 14. The EV was all set to be showcased at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show in March, which was cancelled due to the rising concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, Hyundai revealed the car on a virtual platform in early March, much to the delight of all enthusiasts.

At first glance, it bears a passing resemblance to the early models of the Porsche 911. The sporty features, especially at the rear, and the coupe-like silhouette arise from the evolution of the Sensuous Sportiness design philosophy.

It gets propeller-shaped wheels, vertical tail lamps and an integrated spoiler. The 45 concept also receives a nod, as the Prophecy shares similar pixel lights on the front and rear. Hyundai revealed the 45 last year as a step towards concept EVs in terms of future designs and sustainability.

Entering the Prophecy is like stepping into the future. It features autonomous technology and a bunch of fancy gizmos. Digital screens span the entire width of the dashboard and the cabin gets a minimalistic yet luxurious treatment. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Remember the 1992 Saab 9000 drive-by-wire concept nicknamed the Prometheus? If you thought that was bold, imagine a car with TWO joysticks over a traditional steering wheel. YES, TWO! Hyundai claims that this is more driver-focused and improves ergonomics.

If Hyundai spawns a production model, it will rival the likes of the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S and the upcoming Jaguar XJ EV. For now, the Prophecy EV is just a concept and most of its cool features won't make it to the production line anytime soon. But in the meantime, the overwhelming emotion brought on by this concept is more than satisfactory.
