  • Creta 7-seater retains the 10.25-inch infotainment system and 7-inch digital instrument display.
  • Could be offered in six-seater and seven-seater layouts.
  • Features a redesigned rear-end, a different grille, and alloy wheels.
  • Should be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine and a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit.
  • Likely to be priced at Rs 1 lakh more than the standard Creta (Rs 10 lakh to Rs 17.54 lakh).

Hyundai India is working on a 7-seater version of the Creta, which could be called the Alcazar. Likely to be launched later this year, it will get a few distinguishing elements on the outside, as seen in the spy shots. Now, the interiors of the upcoming SUV have been spied. Is it any different than the 5-seater Creta?

On the inside, it appears to be similar to the standard model. The 10.25-inch infotainment system and the 7-inch coloured digital instrument display have been retained. That said, the production-spec model could wear a different colour scheme and upholstery for distinction. Like the Hector Plus and Safari, the SUV could be offered in a 6-seater layout featuring captain seats and a 7-seater with bench seats for middle-row occupants.

It is on the outside that the 7-seater Creta assumes its identity. It gets a distinct grille and a longer rear overhang with a completely redesigned tail end. Even the split-LED tail lamps are distinct from those in the 5-seater model. The test mule seen here was also sitting on a different set of alloy wheels.

The 7-seater Creta should borrow most of the creature comforts from its smaller sibling. These include connected car tech, ventilated front seats, a Bose sound system, panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, cruise control, and keyless entry with push-button start. Safety should be taken care of by six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, a rear view camera, electronic stability control, and an electric parking brake.

Hyundai is yet to narrow down on the powertrains, but we expect it to come with either the 115PS 1.5-litre diesel or the 140PS 1.4-litre turbo-petrol. Both the engines come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. However, the diesel utilises a 6-speed torque converter, whereas the turbo-petrol comes with a 7-speed DCT. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine could be given a miss.

The 7-seater Creta is likely to sell at Rs 1 lakh more than the standard 5-seater model, that is from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 17.54 lakh. In fact, it could be one of the most affordable 7-seater SUVs in India. It will rival the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and the Mahindra XUV500.
