BMW is making a big push for electric vehicles (EVs) by introducing three EVs in the form of the iX3 SUV, i4 and iNEXT for 2021. We also expect BMW to make a grand stand at the ongoing 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show. And now, the carmaker has revealed what’s under the hood of the second model, the i4 electric sedan. The electric motor packs a V8-rivalling punch, as well as an impressive range per charge. Here’s more on the i4:

BMW has revealed that the i4 electric sedan will produce around 530PS, rivaling the likes of an ICE BMW V8. The motor will be juiced up by an 80 kWh battery pack to give the electric sedan a range of upto 600km. BMW also claims a 0-100kmph sprint time of 4 seconds and a top speed exceeding 200kmph.

The sedan will be the second model after the iX3 to utilise the fifth-gen BMW e-drive hardware while the iNEXT will be the third. BMW claims the new hardware will feature a new electric motor, power electronics, charging unit and high-voltage battery.

Many details on the i4 sedan, including its body and interiors, are yet to be revealed. Expect a long wait considering the iX3 will arrive before it in 2020. The rate of information on the i4 is likely to go up after the iX3 debut. The i4 will be a part of BMW’s goal of having at least 25 electric models by 2023.
Once the i4 makes its official debut in 2021, expect it to take on the likes of the Tesla Model S as well as the Porsche Taycan. That said, expect more German rivals by the time it is launched.
