Jeep is all set to launch the facelifted Compass in India soon and has released its first teaser. The image, showcased on the Jeep website, indicates a new green colour option. While the updated Compass will debut on January 7, dealers have already started accepting unofficial pre-launch bookings for Rs 50,000.

We got to see the updated Compass for the first time at the Guangzhou Auto Show recently, and the SUV gets quite a few changes. The exterior has been given a breath of fresh air with the chrome-studded seven-slat grille, sleeker LED projector headlights and LED DRLs (all for the first time in a Compass), aggressive new bumpers, and updated tail lamps detailing.

It is the interior, however, that gets a complete makeover. Starting with the main highlight, the Compass will come with a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Jeep’s latest UConnect 5 connected car suite. Other highlights include a new steering wheel and digital driver’s display. Features like wireless charging, 360-degree camera, and ventilated front seats will be added to the list of features, which already included a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control and cruise control.

Mechanically, the Compass is expected to remain unchanged. It will still be powered by the same 163PS 1.4-litre turbo-petrol and 170PS 2.0-litre diesel engine as seen in the current model. Transmission duties will continue to be handled by the 6-speed MT, with the turbo-petrol getting a DCT option and the diesel a 9-speed AT.

There is a possibility that the Trailhawk variant will be offered right from day one of the arrival of the updated Compass. We expect the new Compass to carry a premium over the current model which retails from Rs 16.49 lakh to Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It will continue to lock horns with the Tata Harrier, Hyundai Tucson, Skoda Karoq, and the upcoming Citroen C5 Aircross. We also expect deliveries for the updated Compass to begin somtime in February.
