  • The 2020 Hyundai Creta will most likely debut at Auto Expo 2020.
  • The design looks similar to the ix25 albeit with distinguishing design elements.
  • Expected to come with features such as BlueLink connected car tech, a panoramic sunroof and cruise control.
  • Will come with the Kia Seltos’ 1.5-litre CRDI and VTVT powertrains.

A production-spec 2020 Hyundai Creta midsize SUV was spied testing on the outskirts of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was spied benchmarking against the Kia Seltos, the SUV it will be based on and its primary rival. This is the second generation update for the Creta in India. It’ll be larger than the existing model and will come with BS6-compliant engines. Hyundai will most likely take the wraps off the new Creta at the Auto Expo 2020.

The new Hyundai Creta looks similar to the ix25 albeit with distinguishing design elements. The front-end comes with a slatted grille, unlike the China-spec’s honeycomb mesh finish. These are flanked by split headlamps that come with LED DRLs and projector headlamps. In profile, the 17-inch alloy wheels and the glass area look similar to the existing Creta. Moving on to the back, we could notice the split tail lamps that come with LED elements.

Inside, the 2020 Creta could come with a Tesla-esque central console, digital driver’s display and a chunkier 3-spoke steering wheel a la the Hyundai ix25. We expect it to come loaded with features such as BlueLink connected car tech, a panoramic sunroof, cruise control, climate control, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charger, ventilated seats, powered front seats as well as keyless entry with push-button start.

The 2020 Hyundai Creta will come with the BS6 compliant 1.5-litre CRDI (diesel) and VTVT (petrol) engine options that’s seen in the Seltos. The CRDI engine develops 115PS and 250Nm while the VTVT engine puts out 115PS and 144Nm. Both engines will most likely come with a 6-speed manual gearbox. However, the diesel AT variant could come with a 6-speed torque converter and the petrol variant a CVT a la the Kia Seltos.

We expect Hyundai to take the wraps off the new Hyundai Creta at the Auto Expo 2020. Naturally, expect it to be priced over the current model, which starts from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). When launched, the Creta will renew its rivalry with the Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Tata Harrier and Mahindra XUV500.
