The spied images reveal two variants, and colours that will be offered!

  • MG will mark its debut in India with the Hector in June 2019.
  • Lower variants get different alloys and misses out on chrome inserts.
  • Powering the Hector will be a 2.0-litre diesel and a 1.5-litre petrol engine.

MG’s upcoming Hector has been spied on Indian roads for the first time without any camouflage. The Hector will mark the British marque’s debut in India. The test mules were spotted without any camouflage, revealing many interesting bits about the upcoming SUV that is all set to be launched in June.

Four spy shots of the SUV have surfaced on the interwebs, revealing two  shades and two variants. The grey car from the spied images happens to be lower-spec variant while the purple/burgundy car appears to be a top-end variant. What initially grabs your attention and differentiates the lower variant is the absence of chrome that is present on the top-end version.  Silver inserts have replaced all the chrome bits surrounding the grille, the lower bumper, and the window line. The lower variant sports different alloy wheels when compared to the dual-tone option on the top-spec variant. The grille houses all-black hexagonal mesh along with the British brand’s logo instead of the chrome mesh insert seen on the earlier leaked images. These are the only differentiating bits on both the variants and even the lower variant seems to be loaded with projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, roof rails and ORVMs with integrated turn signals.

A Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine producing 173PS/350Nm, similar to the Jeep Compass, will be used along with a 6-speed manual transmission. The petrol engine will be a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit with expected figures of 143PS/250Nm. The petrol motor will also get the option of a DCT.

As for the features, MG is pitching the Hector as a connected SUV with segment-first features. It gets a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with  iSMART, an in-car Android-based tablet featuring 4G (5G ready) connectivity and OTA (over the air) updates. This enables a lot of functions in the SUV, including features like emergency calls, vehicle status, remote control for the sunroof, tailgate, door lock, and a whole lot more, which you can find out here.

With an expected pricing range of Rs 15 lakh - Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) the MG Hector will lock horns with the much established Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier and the Mahindra XUV500. MG’s reign in India depends on the Hector’s success as there is a saying that goes “You never get a second chance to make a first impression”.
