2017 Hyundai Verna Teaser Video Out, Dealer Bookings Begin

Update: Hyundai has launched the new Verna in India. Petrol variants are priced from Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 12.24 lakh. Diesel variants are priced from Rs 9.19 lakh to Rs 12.40 lakh.

Hyundai is betting big on the all-new Verna. The sedan which once was the poster boy for Hyundai has lost its charm over the years. But the all-new Verna is set to change all of this and bring Hyundai back into the premium sedan game, rivalling the like of the facelift Honda City and the old but still popular Maruti Ciaz.

Another teaser trailer has been launched which reveals certain elements of the next-gen sedan in different shades of lights. This just goes on to confirm the model of the Verna we had revealed earlier that will be entering the country. Official bookings for the sedan are yet to begin but a few dealers in metro cities have started to accept token amounts (refundable) as low as Rs 25,000.

Earlier trailers had revealed the partial face and interior sketch of the all-new Verna. The latest iteration of the C-segment sedan is largely inspired by the all-new Elantra. The grille, though, is closer to the Xcent facelift which was launched a few months back. It will be interesting to see how potential buyers take in the new design as it has already started to divide opinion amongst the enthusiasts. The all-new Verna wears a sophisticated cloak, ditching the sporty and athletic look of the current sedan which was admired by a lot of buyers.

In term of the features, the 2017 Hyundai Verna will be on par with the current entourage in the segment. It will get a touchscreen with smartphone pairing, navigation and rear camera, a minimalistic layout of the dashboard and most likely LED projector headlamps with DRLs. But will it get a sunroof to properly take on the Honda City? Time will tell.

Mechanically, the 1.4 and 1.6-litre petrol/diesel engines from the older model are expected to be carried forward. The tune, though, might differ to better suit the new dynamics. What is likely to happen is the 4-speed auto box making way for a modern 6-speed torque converter. The Verna is one of the most powerful sedans in the segment and if the driving dynamics get better, it could easily become the choice of the enthusiast.

We are expecting the next-gen Hyundai Verna to be launched later this month or early next month. The price difference for the all-new Verna could be close to Rs 20,000 for the base but the fully specced car could cost up to Rs 50,000 more than the current top end.
