The compact SUV space is the most loved segment in India, and the sales figures justify it, too. This segment is flooded with cars from various manufacturers. With models that deliver strong performance, solid comfort, and premium features, these SUVs continue to prove why this body style remains the most preferred even in 2026.
Here are the top 10 picks from this segment and everything they offer:
Prices expected to start from Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom)
The Renault Duster, the SUV that once started this segment back in 2012, has finally made a comeback. This time around, though, the exterior design looks a lot more modern, albeit with design elements resembling a muscular, squared-off SUV stance and sits on 18-inch alloy wheels.

One of the main highlights of the new Duster is its interior and list of features, a space where it always felt lacking in the competition. The new interior design is very modern and appealing, and offers features like a dual-screen setup with Google OS, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, a powered tailgate, and ambient lighting. It also features a Level 2 ADAS suite, a 360-degree camera, and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold.

Other design aspects, like a squared rear window and a flat tailgate, show a perfect blend between futuristic styling and nostalgic throwback elements.

The interior carries a very minimalistic layout with key features including a triple-screen layout with two 12.3-inch displays and a 10.25-inch driver's display, a panoramic sunroof, electric powered and ventilated front seats, a 12-speaker JBL Black sound system with a sound bar, a powered tailgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, multi-colour ambient lighting, and drive and traction/terrain modes. The Citroen Aircross has always struggled to find its sales in this tough competition. The exterior design is big and bold with a tall SUV-like stance and sharp design elements. The styling is not very striking though, and from some angles it does resemble an MPV.

Moving inside, the Aircross is the only car in the segment to offer a third row of seats, which makes it a 7-seater. The dashboard has a soft-touch leatherette material, and the layout is sober and pleasing without flashy elements. It comes equipped with a decent list of features, which include a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, cruise control, automatic climate control, 360-degree camera, auto-dimming IRVM, and 6 airbags. It does miss out on a lot of features that the rivals offer, but then it is one of the cheapest offerings.

Nissan has been working on a compact SUV for the Indian market, which will be based on the Renault Duster. It is expected to launch soon in the coming months, with the testing prototypes spotted a couple of times. The Tekton could feature a bold front profile with a high bonnet line and a sporty rear end. In terms of features and the powertrain options on offer, the Tekton is expected to borrow them all from the Duster itself. With the launch of Nissan Tekton in India, the compact SUV space will once again heat up to find the true winner.

Skoda has just revealed the Kushaq facelift a few days back, and it has improved on every aspect where it felt lacking. The exterior sees a new front fascia, updated rear, and new 17-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, the Kushaq now gets a panoramic sunroof, rear massaging seats, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, and front parking sensors. The engine options remain unchanged, but Skoda has replaced the old 6-speed torque converter automatic with a new 8-speed torque converter gearbox for the 1-litre TSI engine. This new gearbox is better suited to Indian road conditions. With prices set to be released in March 2026, the Kushaq seems ready to eat into the sales of its rivals.

All these cars make the compact SUV space a very tough battleground, but the plus side of it is that there is a specific car available for every type of buyer out there. While most of the features and overall space might be quite similar, what really differentiates them is their powertrain options.
If your highway runs are very frequent and you’re in need of a diesel engine, then the Sierra, Seltos, and Creta should be on your radar. But in case your highway trips are occasional, but you still want diesel-like mileage? Then, you should be considering the strong hybrid powertrain that is offered with the new Duster, Victoris, and the Grand Vitara / Urban Cruiser Hyryder duo. If you crave Japanese reliability, the Honda Elevate and other offerings from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota should impress you, which are also offered with a factory-fitted CNG. Most of the cars here come with a turbo petrol engine, but if you’re seeking real thrill in every drive, the German duo, Kushaq and Taigun, should be your pick.
Which one out of these compact SUVs would you pick? Let us know your reasons in the comments below!
