Tesla Model S Plaid Reclaims Its Nurburgring Lap Time For Fastest Production Four-door EV

• The Model S Plaid was equipped with Track Package performance upgrades.

• The Track pack includes track ready tyres, 20-inch forged aluminium alloy wheels and carbon ceramic brakes.

• The run was carried out on the 20.8km long Nürburgring Nordschleife race track.

The fight between Tesla and Porsche over who can lap it fastest around the Green Hell just got more interesting, as the American electric automaker sets a new Nürburgring lap time record of 7:25.231 with the Model S Plaid with the Track Package. With this lap time, the Model S Plaid not only beat its own previous lap record of 7:35.579 minutes by 10 seconds, it was a whopping 8 seconds faster than the Porsche Taycan Turbo S.

Tesla also shared a video of the Model S Plaid’s record breaking run, which was carried out on the 20.832km long Nürburgring Nordschleife race track. Driven by Tom Schwister, the Model S Plaid with Track Package achieved a top speed of up to 289kmph during its run.

What’s Special About This Model S Plaid Track Package?

The Model S Plaid equipped with  Track Package gets track ready tyres with forged aluminium 20-inch wheels. It also gets upgraded carbon ceramic brakes with, which gives improved braking consistency in all conditions even when they are scorching hot. 

Any Changes To The Powertrain?

The Model S Plaid for this run had the same 1020HP electric motor which is enough for the electric sedan to sprint from 0 to 100kmph in 1.9 seconds. On a single charge, it offers a claimed driving range of up to 638km. The Model S Plaid can do a top speed of up to 200mph (321.8kmph). So it clearly shows that upgraded hardware does help improve its performance. 

Fastest Road-Legal Laps

The Mercedes AMG One holds the record of being the fastest production car to lap the 20.8km race track in 6:35:183 minutes, followed by the Mercedes AMG GT Black Series and Porsche 911GT2 RS, with lap times of 6:35:18 and 6:43:30.
