French carmaker Renault has reached a new milestone for its Indian operations: it has exported 1 lakh cars from its Chennai production facility. Its primary exports are the Kiger, Kwid and Triber that are sold in over 14 countries across Asia, Oceania and Africa.
Renault’s local operations began over a decade ago with the Fluence sedan. Over the years, its Indian arm has collaborated with research and development centres in France to locally develop vehicles in India. The Kiger is already exported to South Africa and Nepal, and the carmaker plans to expand its reach further to South East Asian countries.
“Our expansion strategy is focused on further strengthening our presence in India,” says Venkatram Mamillapalle, the CEO and Managing Director of Renault India. Although the carmaker didn’t divulge any details about future models, it has a reassuring vision for “making Indian products popular and aspirational in the international markets.”
