It’ll get a hybrid power unit and all-wheel drive as standard

  • Likely to borrow the 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines from the new C-Class.
  • Will feature the latest MBUX infotainment system, likely paired with an 11.9-inch touchscreen.

  • Likely to command a premium over the current model’s Rs 62 lakh price tag.

After a few teaser campaigns, the next iteration of the Mercedes-Benz GLC is all set to break cover on June 1, 2022. It’ll get an all-new look, electrified powertrains and a longer list of features. Expected to be introduced in India later this year, the luxury SUV will rival the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60.

Only the rear fascia of the Mercedes GLC is somewhat visible in the official teaser image. The next-gen SUV will feature a split taillight setup similar to the W206 Mercedes-Benz C-Class that’s already on sale in India. Although its size is expected to remain largely unchanged, it’ll get a redesigned bodywork with all-new front and rear fascias.

The 2023 Mercedes GLC will get a 4Matic all-wheel-drive (AWD) system as standard. Mercedes says the SUV will have “100 per cent hybrid drive”, which means that even the lower-spec models will get at least a mild-hybrid system onboard. A plug-in hybrid version will offer an all-electric range of “more than 100km” and be available in select markets, but it’s unlikely to be offered in India, at least at launch.

We aren’t sure what the new SUV’s interior would look like, but we expect it’ll be plusher, with a minimalist design. The 11.9-inch touchscreen seen in the C-Class could be present in the GLC, too, powered by the latest version of the MBUX infotainment system.

Mercedes hasn’t divulged the SUV’s powertrain options, but we reckon it’ll get 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and diesel powertrains from the global C-Class sedan. The mild-hybrid system is expected to offer around 20PS and 200Nm of supplementary power and enhance fuel economy.
