It’s grown in size and gets more tech and electrified powertrains

After a long teaser campaign, Mercedes-Benz has unleashed its latest iteration of the GLC. This latest generational update brings a fresh look, more features on tap, as well as a full lineup of hybrid propulsion.

So what’s new in how the GLC looks? For starters, it's grown by 60mm in length with the wheelbase stretched by 15mm. That being said, it's gotten a bit shorter. The body is also more efficient with a 0.29 drag coefficient. The font grille is larger with a cool three-dimensional star pattern, flanked by slimmer headlights that merge with the headlights. The rear takes some cues from the W206 Mercedes-Benz C-Class that’s already on sale in India with a similar split tail light setup. Slightly more athletic character lines give the next-gen SUV a modest overhaul than before.

Inside is where the real overhaul lies, with the GLC now getting the crisp 11.9-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system and 12.3-inch digital driver’s display from the C-Class and S-Class, running the second-gen MBUX UI. It also goes big on safety with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, trailer manoeuvring system, and park assistance.

Under the hood, it’s 100 per cent hybrid drive for the GLC. It starts off with a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine (up to 258PS) and a 197PS 2-litre diesel engine with 48V mild-hybrid tech. Plus, there will be plug-in hybrid options too, including two petrol mills up to 381PS and one 331PS diesel engine.

Expect the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC to show up in India in late 2022. With its electrified powertrains and longer list of features, it’s likely to be priced at a premium over the current GLC that retails from Rs 62 lakh (ex-showroom). The luxury SUV will rival the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60.
