For now, only existing Mercedes-Benz customers can place bookings for the C200 and C300d variants

  • Will be offered in C 200 petrol and C 220d and C 300d diesel variants in India.

  • Mercedes customers can book the sedan from April 13-30, 2022.

  • Bookings will open for everyone else on May 1, ahead of the sedan’s launch on May 10.

The fifth-generation (W206) Mercedes-Benz C-Class made its global debut in February last year, and it’s all set to arrive in India next month. Ahead of its launch on May 10, 2022, Mercedes has begun taking bookings for select variants of the sedan. Existing customers of the luxury marque get first priority – they can exclusively book the C-Class until April 30, after which bookings for all other buyers will begin.

Major changes are part of the fifth-gen update. On the outside, the new C-Class is longer and slightly wider than the sedan it replaces. With fewer lines and more curves, it appears sleeker, with sharply styled LED headlights and a new front bumper.

As standard, you’ll get high-performance LED headlights in the C-Class. But the optional Digital Light headlights take night-time illumination up by a notch – they aren’t just adaptive for high and low beams, they can even project guide-lines and warning symbols on the road! The overall aesthetic is inspired by the new S-Class, and you can see the influence in the C-Class’ narrow, split tail lamps.

Inside, the new interior has a cleaner, more minimalist layout. Triple air vents sit at the centre of the dashboard, and the centre console flows downward to meet the armrest. At the rear, the seats have a memory function and offer 20mm more legroom than the previous W205 C-Class.

You’ll likely get a 10.25-inch driver’s display and a 9.5-inch infotainment touchscreen as standard. A larger 12.3-inch driver’s display and 11.9-inch touchscreen are expected to be offered as options or as standard fitment on higher-spec variants.

At launch, the new Mercedes C-Class will be offered in three variants – C 200, C 220d and C 300d. The C 200 is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, while the other two are diesel-powered. A 48-volt mild-hybrid system is standard, and it’s paired with a 20PS/200Nm electric motor to boost performance and efficiency.

The global C-Class gets a wide array of driver assistance features in the Driving Assistance Package. Its latest update comes with a new adaptive cruise control system that can detect and respond to vehicles parked on the side of the road, a more reliable active steering assist system, and traffic sign assist with stop sign and red light detection. We’ll have to wait to see which active safety and assistance features make it to the India-spec model.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class will be launched in India on May 10. Pre-launch bookings will start on May 1 (unless you’re a Mercedes customer), and the booking amount is Rs 50,000. We expect the C-Class to command a premium over the existing sedan, and it could be priced from Rs 55 lakh onwards (ex-showroom). It’ll rival the Audi A4, Volvo S60, and BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine luxury sedans.
