Jaguar’s Radical Electric GT Officially Named ‘Type 01’: 1,000 PS EV To Debut Later This Year

Jaguar has officially revealed the name of its upcoming all-electric four-door GT: the Jaguar Type 01.

This will be the first production model from Jaguar’s completely reinvented EV-only era and is expected to make its global debut later in 2026. Ahead of that, Jaguar will showcase camouflaged prototypes of the Type 01 at the upcoming Monaco Formula E-Prix scheduled for May 16-17 2026.

The announcement comes nearly a year and a half after Jaguar’s controversial EV-focused rebrand and the unveiling of the dramatic Type 00 concept.

Here’s everything we know so far about the new Jaguar Type 01:

Jaguar Type 01: What Does The Name Mean?

Jaguar says the ‘Type 01’ name combines the brand’s heritage with its future direction.

The ‘Type’ part is a nod to iconic Jaguar models from the past such as the C-Type, D-Type and E-Type, along with the recently discontinued F-Type.

Meanwhile, the ‘0’ signifies zero tailpipe emissions, while the ‘1’ represents the first car of Jaguar’s completely new era. Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover has also described it as a symbol of the brand’s “complete reset” and a “one of a kind” product.

Interestingly, the Type 01 branding itself will sit near the base of the windscreen on the bonnet.

Jaguar Type 01: Exterior Design 

While the production-spec model is still heavily camouflaged, Jaguar has already revealed a few design details through prototypes and the earlier Type 00 concept.

The Type 01 is expected to retain a dramatic GT-like silhouette with a very long bonnet, upright front and rear sections and a sharply sloping roofline.

Prototype images also reveal bold linear graphics, flush surfacing and an overall design language that looks radically different from any Jaguar before it.

Unlike the two-door Type 00 concept, however, the production version will adopt a more practical four-door body style.

Another interesting detail is the complete absence of a rear window, something Jaguar appears set to retain from the concept car.

The Type 01 is also expected to be massive in size, measuring over 5.2 metres in length with a wheelbase of around 3.2 metres.

Jaguar Type 01: Interior And Features 

Jaguar has not officially revealed the cabin yet, but the production-spec model is expected to carry forward the ultra-minimalist and luxurious approach previewed by the Type 00 concept.

The large wheelbase should translate into a very spacious cabin, while the brand is expected to focus heavily on interior craftsmanship, digital interfaces and material quality.

Jaguar has also hinted that the Type 01 will set the tone for the design and technology direction of all future Jaguar models.

Jaguar Type 01: Powertrain 

The Type 01 will sit on Jaguar’s all-new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform and promises some very serious performance figures. Here are the expected specifications:

Jaguar claims the Type 01 will combine extreme performance with refinement and comfort, staying true to the GT philosophy rather than becoming an outright hardcore EV supercar.

The EV will also feature air suspension with active twin-valve dampers to improve ride comfort and handling balance.

Jaguar Type 01: Launch Timeline 

Jaguar will showcase the first official Type 01 prototypes at the Monaco Formula E-Prix this weekend before revealing the production-spec model globally later in 2026.

International deliveries are expected to begin in the first half of 2027.

An India launch has not been officially confirmed yet, but the Type 01 could arrive here sometime in late 2027 or early 2028.

Jaguar Type 01: Rivals 

The Jaguar Type 01 is expected to rival ultra-premium electric performance models such as the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, Lucid Air Sapphire and future high-end EVs from Bentley and Maserati.

This represents a complete reinvention of the brand itself, right from the design language and customer positioning to the way Jaguar wants people to perceive its future products.
