2025 Hyundai Venue Powertrain Line-up Revealed: Petrol, Diesel & Turbo Options Detailed

With the all-new Hyundai Venue finally out and its Indian launch scheduled for November 4, Hyundai has revealed the powertrain options of its best-selling subcompact SUV. Although the 2025 Venue is clothed in a new design for boldness, sits on a longer wheelbase, and features new technology, its engine range follows a tried-and-tested formula. 

Here's the lowdown on what's under the bonnet and how it stacks up against the outgoing 2022 model.

Kappa 1.2-litre MPi Petrol: Still the Everyday Hero

Under the hood of the Venue line-up continues to be Hyundai's well-proven Kappa 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, a unit that has driven countless i20s, Grand i10s, and, naturally, the Venue itself. In the outgoing 2022 model, it delivered 83 PS and 114 Nm and was mated exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The new Venue retains this same powertrain, though Hyundai claims it's been tuned for improved throttle response and enhanced fuel efficiency. The focus is on daily drivability; a linear power curve, quieter operation, and reduced running expenses make it an ideal choice for urban commuters. It's not the most thrilling engine in the range, but it's the reliable one, unpretentious, and designed for those who like simple, hassle-free driving.

Kappa 1-litre Turbo GDi Petrol: The Punchy Performer

For customers who prefer their SUVs with an added dose of oomph, Hyundai still keeps the 1-litre Turbo GDi petrol mill in the mix. The specs are old friends, 120 PS and 172 Nm, but the 2025 Venue offers upgraded calibration for more muscle at the low end and marginally improved fuel efficiency.

Buyers can choose between the slick-shifting 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic) and a 6-speed manual. The DCT remains one of the smoothest in the segment, quick to react and perfectly suited for both city traffic and open highways. While competitors like the Mahindra XUV 3XO and Tata Nexon have stepped up their turbo game, Hyundai’s tuning and gearbox refinement still make this engine one of the most rounded choices in the class.

U2 1.5-litre CRDi Diesel: The Enduring Workhorse

In a segment where most competitors are stepping away from diesel, Hyundai still supports the fuel, which helped it earn its reputation for fuel efficiency. The U2 1.5-litre CRDi engine remains in the range, with 116 PS and 250 Nm of torque, married to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The engine itself hasn't changed mechanically, but it's been tuned down for cleaner emissions and less noise for BS6 Phase 2 compliance. For users who do long runs or on highways, this is still the best of the lot: robust mid-range grunt, long service intervals, and great mileage.

Although unconfirmed, we feel Hyundai could add an automatic gearbox option to the diesel mill, considering Kia offers a 6-speed AT with the Sonet. 

Transmission Choices: More Flexibility, Same Formula

Hyundai has opted to stick with the familiar for transmissions as well. The manual transmission carries over on the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel, while the DCT is still turbo-petrol exclusive. The introduction of an automatic unit for the Venue diesel could make things very interesting for the buyers. The combination of gearboxes means there's something for all, from cost-conscious buyers to those seeking a more high-tech driving experience.

It’s the same setup as before, but Hyundai’s small tweaks to shift quality and response timing should make the new Venue feel smoother and more polished on the road.
