The new generation Toyota Camry is all set to launch in India tomorrow, on December 11. This new model gets a completely new design, a revamped interior, fresh colours, new features, upgraded safety equipment, and an updated hybrid powertrain. If you had your eyes on one, here are 6 things you can expect from Toyota’s premium sedan. 

New Toyota Camry: New Design

The new Camry features a fresh look in line with Toyota’s new design language. It bears a low-slung stance, sharp cuts and creases, and lowered roofline. There is a new front end adjoined by a large grille, plus it comes with new LED headlights along with C-shaped LED daytime driving lights. At the back, there are new sleek C-shaped taillights. 

Depending on the trim, wheel sizes range between 18- and 19-inches. The India-spec model is likely to use 19-inch units. 

New Toyota Camry: Fresh Interior

Inside, the completely overhauled cabin of the new Camry features a new range of interior colour themes, distinct upholstery options, and various interior trims. Toyota says that the new-look instrument panel includes a key sculptural section that resembles a guitar fretboard. In addition, there is a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display.

New Toyota Camry: Features

The upcoming ninth-generation Camry comes equipped with a 10-inch heads-up display, a panoramic sunroof,  connected car tech, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, dual-zone AC, and ventilated/heated seats with powered and memory functions. Moreover, the sedan gets 5 USB ports (front and rear), and wireless charging pad. Expect the India-spec model to come equipped with more or less similar features.

New Toyota Camry: Safety Equipment

Furthermore, the new Camry boasts the latest suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features as standard, including pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, rear-cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane keeping assist. It is not yet clear if Toyota will offer these ADAS features in the India-spec model. The India-spec model is also expected to benefit from some safety features available on international-spec Camry, such as 8 airbags, TPMS, 360-degree camera, hill start assist, anti-theft alarm, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat anchor points.

New Toyota Camry: Tweaked Hybrid Powertrain

The new-gen Camry is powered  by an updated 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with Toyota’s fifth generation hybrid system. This includes a new battery, two new electric motors, and reworked components. The hybrid system produces a combined output of 225 PS in the front-wheel-drive (FWD) version, which may be the trim Toyota brings to the Indian market. As a matter of fact, there is also an all-wheel drive version available in some international markets that makes 232 PS – 7 PS more than the FWD version.

New Toyota Camry: Price & Rivals

The upcoming Toyota Camry is expected to command a premium over the outgoing model, which costs Rs 46.17 lakh (ex-showroom). The new price could be around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon launch, it will continue to compete against the Skoda Superb.
