According to our sources, Ola Electric will launch a new derivation of the Ola S1 e-scooter on Independence Day (August 15). It’s likely to be priced under Rs 1 lakh, and will be the company’s most affordable electric scooter. Apart from this, the company could also launch an electric car.
In fact, we’d reported this development in April, and the company’s CEO Bhavish Aggarwal had also teased the arrivals via a Twitter poll on August 5. The tweet included the options “New S1 at lower price”, “India’s sportiest car”, “Ola Cell factory”, and “New exciting colour on S1”. As per the sources in the know, the upcoming Ola electric scooter will likely use the Ola MoveOS 2 platform. Expect it to have a smaller battery capacity with lesser range than the Ola S1 Pro. For reference, the Ola S1 Pro uses a 3.97kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and in our tests it offered a real-world range of 136km in the city and 141km on the highway.
While it could retain the core, useful features such as OTA updates and navigation, expect it to skip on the fancier bits. Once launched, it will go up against the base variant of the TVS iQube Electric, Okinawa Okhi90, and BGauss D15. In a related development, Ola recently unveiled India’s first indigenously-manufactured lithium-ion battery cell. The company is also working on safer, more affordable LFP cells.
