BYD has officially teased the entry of a new variant of its Atto 3 electric SUV, on its social media handles. Though official announcements are awaited on July 10, our dealer sources have confirmed that it will be a new entry-level variant with a downsized battery pack.

Select dealerships across the country have already commenced accepting booking orders from potential customers at a token amount of Rs 50,000.
BYD has managed to create its awareness amongst the Indian audience with its exceptional EVs like the Atto 3 which launched in the year 2022, and the Seal, which launched earlier this year. To further increase its affordability and approachability, BYD has teased a new variant for the Atto 3, which is set to be introduced on July 10.

The new entry-level variant of the Atto 3, is likely going to be downsized on battery as it will possibly be equipped with a smaller 50 kWh battery pack as opposed to the 60 kWh battery pack which powers the current model. Though no changes are expected in the power figures, this change will result in a lesser claimed range.

Furthermore, a few pricey feature equipment like ADAS, will be dropped off from the upcoming entry-level variant, to keep costs under control. All this will help the Atto 3 get more affordable and approachable for customers looking for a premium EV SUV under the Rs 35 lakh mark.
The BYD Atto 3 was the Chinese automanufacturer’s second model for the Indian market which made its India debut in 2022, and was brought in as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit. Based on BYD’s born electric platform, it features BYD’s blade battery technology and is equipped with a 60 kWh battery pack.

The BYD Atto 3 is based on BYD’s Dragon Face 3.0 design theme with EV-specific design elements like an enclosed grille and aero-designed 18-inch alloy wheels. It gets a minimalist and clean design with body lines and contours giving it an attractive and distinctive appearance.
The interiors of the BYD Atto 3 are the main talking point with quirky design for the interior layout. Different materials and textures layered on the dashboard, makes it completely unique and helps it stand out amongst the crowd. Uniquely designed air-vents, door handles and gear selector gives it a futuristic appeal which elevates the overall cabin experience inside.

The centre stage is taken by a large 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen infotainment system which houses most of the vehicle’s functionality. It gets wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with other built-in apps. Other niceties include a 5-inch digital driver’s display, wireless phone charger, NFC card access, panoramic sunroof, 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat, and a powered tailgate.

On the safety aspect, it is equipped with 7-airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill-hold and hill-assist, 360 degree surround view camera with front and rear parking sensors, and ADAS features like blind spot monitoring, emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
The current model of the Atto 3, on sale in India gets a 60 kWh battery pack paired to a single motor powering the front wheels. With this powertrain, the BYD Atto 3 produces 204 PS and 310 Nm and can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 7.3 seconds. It claims an ARAI range of 521 km (from 100 percent to 5 percent). Upon 80kW fast charging, it can juice up the Atto 3 from 0-80 percent in 50 minutes.

The upcoming entry-level model will feature a smaller 50 kWh battery pack which will get a lesser claimed mileage.
The current model on sale of the Atto 3 retails from Rs. 33.99 lakh to Rs 34.49 Lakh (ex-showroom). The new entry level variant is expected to be priced considerably lower than the current models and we expect it to be priced around the Rs 30 lakh mark, to make it an even aggressive rival to the MG ZS EV as well as the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti Suzuki eVX.
