The i20 N Line will kick off Hyundai’s performance-focused ‘N’ model range in India

Hyundai is all set to bring the ‘N’ moniker to India starting with the hot i20 N Line unveiling tomorrow. Sure, the i20 N Line is the entry point to Hyundai’s performance-focused ‘N’ model range, but it still gets hotter enhancements than the standard i20. Here are five things to expect from Hyundai India’s first N Line model.

Sporty Makeover

If we’re going by the Euro-spec model, the i20 N Line will get a “chequered flag” mesh cascading front grille, complemented by tweaked front and rear bumpers. Other changes will include bespoke 17-inch alloys, an‘N Line’ logo, and a chrome twin-exhaust muffler.

Cabin Changes?

Inside, the enhancements are likely to be limited to different upholstery red stitching on the seats, gear knob and steering wheel; metal pedals; and the ‘N Line’ logo on the seats. Features should be largely similar to the standard model, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), BlueLink connected car tech, an electric sunroof, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and a seven-speaker Bose sound system.

It is expected to be specced with the same 120PS 1-litre turbo-petrol engine from the standard model, albeit with tune-ups to the suspension, engine response, gear ratios, and exhaust note. An RTO document reveals it’ll be paired with the iMT (clutchless manual) as well as a DCT transmission options like the standard i20.

Variants

The RTO document also reveals it’ll be available in the N6 and N8 variants, with the iMT (clutchless manual) transmission being available for both variants. The DCT gearbox on the other hand will be limited to the N8. While details haven’t been fully revealed, we think they’ll be based on the Sportz, Asta, and Asta (O) from the standard model.

Pricing And Rivals

The Hyundai i20 N Line will go on sale in India around September 2021, at an expected premium of over around Rs 50,000 over the top-spec standard model that retails at Rs 11.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Select dealerships have already begun accepting bookings for the sportier hatchback for a token of Rs 25,000. It will have the Volkswagen Polo GT to go up against in the Indian market.
