An RTO document has not only revealed the transmission options but also its variant list

  • It will get iMT (clutchless manual) and DCT options just like the turbo-petrol i20 sold currently.

  • Two variants for iMT and a single option for DCT.

  • These should be based on Sportz, Asta, and Asta (O), respectively.

  • Cosmetic changes include redesigned bumpers, side skirts, alloy wheels, and twin exhaust tips.

  • It will rival Volkswagen Polo GT.

  • Expect a premium over current i20’s top-end price of Rs 11.40 lakh (ex-showroom).

Before the launch of Hyundai’s i20 N Line in India next month, we have learnt the hatchback will be offered with an iMT (clutchless manual) as well as a DCT transmission. The information was revealed in an RTO document, which also mentions the sportier i20’s variant list.

Both transmissions will be paired to the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that is already found in the i20. The iMT option will be available in two variants: N6 and N8 while DCT will be limited to the latter. We expect the iMT variants to be based on the Sportz and Asta variants, respectively, whereas the sole DCT variant could be based on the Asta (O).

On the performance front, we expect changes to the suspension and gear ratios for a more spirited outcome.

The i20 N Line will offer sportier styling over the regular hatchback. Revised front bumper, grille, side skirts, alloy wheel design, rear bumper, and twin-tip exhausts will all be part of the upgrade. It will also get ‘N Line’ branding outside and inside the car. Metal pedals and a slightly different upholstery design along with red accents could make up the changes on the inside.

The i20 N Line will be launched sometime in September and take on the Volkswagen Polo GT. We expect it to fetch a premium over the top-spec i20, which retails at Rs 11.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
