With the update, the Ciaz gets a new 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with Suzuki’s mild-hybrid tech. Fire the motor up and it sputters to life with a mild thrum that quickly disappears. And, for the most part, the motor is happy being the quiet kid. It’s only when you poke it quite a bit does it get vocal. But that raspy engine note is oddly enjoyable. The new engine produces 105PS of power and 138Nm of torque. Quick maths will tell you that’s 12.5PS and 8Nm extra over the outgoing 1.4-litre motor. So, we weren’t really expecting it to kick us in the guts to begin with. And quite expectedly, it didn’t. To drive, it's more or less similar to the outgoing engine. It isn't particularly exciting in any manner. At the same time, it doesn't feel inadequate at any point either. In manual, you don’t really need to shift gears very often. Plus, the gear action is smooth and the clutch is feather light too. On the other hand, Honda City is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol (119PS/145Nm) engine. The petrol, on the other hand, is refined and is very engaging to use. You can take it easy and get a good fuel-economy or rev it hard to have some fun. It’s easily among the most well-rounded petrol engines in the segment. The gearbox is the most intuitive of the lot, and is the best at picking up minor modulations of the throttle. In fact, the gearbox seems like a full generation ahead of the one in the Honda. The experience doesn’t come across as relaxing. You hear the suspension trying to isolate you from the bumps. Any imperfections in the road surface can be felt inside the cabin of the Honda. We would suggest you to take a test drive in order to clear your all doubts. Answer is no and yes depending upon your needs. Ciaz is a practical as well as comfortable car which is suitable for relaxed drives, which if coupled with Maruti’s after sales and maintenance cost in comparison to Honda City it feels better. On the other hand, city is a better performer as it offers higher power displacement, responsive steering and brakes. If you like performance and power then city is better. If you like lesser expensive, comfortable and decent performer ciaz is better

Honda City continues to be the most desirable sedan in this lot. It’s got the looks, the tech and more importantly - that oh-so-illustrious ‘H’ badge on the grille. It’s fun to drive and has enough space to shame cars from a segment above. Looking for a big car experience? Dial H for Honda.
