Both are indeed good options to go for. If outright performance and driving dynamics aren't the most important parameter on your list, and you just need a comfy, spacious sedan to drive to (or be driven in) to work and back, then the Ciaz makes a stronger case than ever. The Ciaz continues to get the basics of space, ride quality and ease of driving spot on. This alone, in our books, are enough reasons to seriously consider buying one. Then there's the fact that the new engine brings with it a bucketload of efficiency and also solves the automatic’s drinking habit to a fair extent. Yes, it still doesn't have the wow factor of a sunroof or other flashy features like a hands-free trunk release or ventilated seats. The only real miss here is the lack of side and curtain airbags. Even with the facelift, the City retains its core strengths. It’s still the same comfortable, reliable, spacious and easy to own car as before. Whether it’s a matter of safety or adding some desirable features so the City can cater to modern buyer demands, Honda has almost perfected the City’s positioning as a great all-rounder. The City continues to be the most desirable sedan in this lot. It’s got the looks, the tech and more importantly - that oh-so-illustrious ‘H’ badge on the grille. It’s fun to drive, and has enough space to shame cars from a segment above. Do take a test drive before making a final call.

In the comparison of automatic, Honda City still leads the pack as it offers 7-speed CVT which is far more responsive and a joy to operate than the 4-speed torque converter of Maruti ciaz. You also get the feature of paddle shifter in Honda City which is a very good addition to the overall package. The 4-speed torque converter of Maruti ciaz feels good in the city driving but cannot hold itself against the Honda City CVT. On the flip side, you have to pay around Rs 2.0 lakh more for the Honda City automatic than the ciaz automatic (starting price for AT).

Both have some advantages and disadvantages. City automatic is better compared to ciaz. Budget may have to be extended a bit.
