The Yamaha R15S gets a single-piece seat that ensures the rider and pillion can easily get on or off the bike. The bike has an LCD instrument cluster displaying a speedometer, bar-style tachometer, odometer, clock, fuel gauge, gear position indicator and ABS warning light, among others. Other features include a dual horn and a side-stand engine cut-off function. It also gets an assist and slipper clutch for easy clutch lever action and prevents rear wheel locking when engine braking aggressively.
The Yamaha R15S has a 155cc liquid-cooled, SOHC, fuel-injected engine that produces 18.4PS @10000rpm and 14.2Nm @ 7500rpm, paired with a 6-speed transmission. The engine is BS6.2 compliant and is compatible with E20 fuel (20 per cent ethanol and 80 per cent petrol blend), reducing emissions and cutting down on pollution. The engine also features a VVA (variable valve actuation) system that ensures good low-end torque without compromising top-end performance.
Both the bikes are good in their forte. The updates as expected have made the new MT-15 a better bike. It looks more premium, handles better and the addition of a few new features is welcome. But we were expecting more from Yamaha! The dullness of the engine is disappointing and the lack of dual-channel ABS is just beyond any reasoning with this performance on tap. As for goodies such as a quick-shifter and traction control, they should have been offered as part of a premium variant. On the other hand, the Yamaha R15S remains one potent small-capacity supersport for beginners. In its version 3.0 guise, it has become sharper and more focused, making it great for sport riding or trac enthusiasts. However, the aggressive riding stance could cause discomfort if you intend to use the bike for daily commuting and the quality of components have also gone down. Moreover, we would suggest you to take a test ride for a better understanding of performance and comfort. Click on the link and select your desired city for dealership details.
