Triumph Street Scrambler Latest Updates

The new Street Scrambler is the sixth model in the Modern Classics family for India after the Street Twin, Bonneville T100 ,Bonneville T120, Thruxton R, and Bonneville Bobber . The new motorcycle is based on the Triumph Street Twin but gets custom-made parts to do suit its purpose.

The rear shocks have more suspension travel, wider set of handlebars, bash plate, 19-inch dia front wheel, 17-inch spoke wheel at the rear and Metzeler Tourance dual-purpose tyres for you to have fun off the tarmac. While it might look retro from the outside, it gets modern goodies like switchable ABS and traction control alongwith USB charging point. The design highlight of the new Street Scrambler stainless steel exhaust that look beautiful.

Powering the motorcycle is the same 900cc parallel-twin motor as seen on the standard bike. The mill churns out 55PS and does justice to the “high torque” moniker by developing 80Nm of peak torque. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic front forks and twin shock absorbers at the back while braking is done via disc brake on both ends. We expect the Triumph Street Scrambler to be priced under Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and it will compete against the Ducati Scrambler Icon.

Editor's View of Triumph Street Scrambler

  • Upside

Torquey parallel-twin motor, Switchable ABS & TC in Off-Road mode, Fantastic fit and finish levels

  • Downside

Scrambler-style exhaust causes mild discomfort, Not as cost effective for a scrambler-option, Lack of standard crash protection

  • Our Verdict

Triumph's Street Scrambler proves to be a fun bike to ride on the road as well as off it. The exhaust layout does prove to be a hindrance but more importantly, it is not as cost-effective as you might originally think.

Q. Does Triumph Street Scrambler can be used for long distances and touring purpose?
  • Certainly! the motorcycle is based on the Street Twin which makes it more off-road friendly. It has got all the basics of an Adventure bike - long travel suspension, large dual-purpose tyres, higher handlebars, high-mounted exhausts and other off-road bits and bobs. It has the ability to survive our roads with better ground clearance that should gobble up speed breakers. The increased suspension travel should cope well on bad roads and the off-roading. Q. Does the exhaust pipe get hot during long riding in Indian city traffic or on a hot summer day when temperatures surge up to 45C - Street Scrambler?
  • The high-mounted exhaust has three shields to protect the rider's legs from getting toasted. While two are made of hard plastics, the middle one is metal with holes covered with mesh that dissipates heat faster than the plastic ones. The shields do heat up mildly so you can forget riding this bike in your shorts. Do take the test ride of the bike so as to clear all your doubts.
