We believe its launch is around the corner, considering the pickup was recently spotted during an ad shoot

  • Toyota Hilux could be offered in multiple variants.
  • The vehicle in these images doesn’t have body cladding and sits on smaller alloy wheels.
  • Should get a wireless phone charger, a touchscreen infotainment system, and multiple airbags.
  • Powertrain options yet to be determined.

The Toyota Hilux has started reaching dealerships ahead of its expected launch in the first quarter of 2022. The pickup seen in these images has different design elements compared to the one spotted earlier, which could mean Toyota might offer the pickup truck in multiple variants.

The Hilux in these images is sitting on smaller blacked-out 17-inch alloy wheels (compared to the larger 18-inch silver units seen in the red one). The chrome strip below the ‘Toyota’ logo and the body cladding are not present here, lending it a much cleaner look. Also, the model seen here doesn’t boast any of the accessories like door visors.

These deletions might be hinting at this variant being one from a lower-spec trim, while the red one seen before could pack all the bells and whistles.

The interior of the India-spec Hilux is still under wraps. That said, elements like the instrument cluster, climate control knobs, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and steering wheel should be straight lifted from its platform siblings – Innova Crysta and Fortuner – to keep costs in check.

Other creature comforts should include a wireless charging pad, a powered driver’s seat, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, and a coloured multi-info display. Passengers should be secured by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, and electronic stability control.

The engine powering the India-spec Hilux is yet to be known. Internationally, the pickup is offered with the 150PS 2.4-litre and 208PS 2.8-litre diesel engines, each paired with a 6-speed manual and an optional 6-speed automatic. The Hilux gets a standard RWD, while a four-wheel drivetrain (with low range) is offered as you move up the ladder.

Toyota will likely price the Hilux between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price, it is a tad pricier than its only rival, the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross.
