New spy shots of a hardcore, spoked rims-equipped KTM 390 Adventure have surfaced on the internet. This could very well be the ‘R’ variant – a suffix given to more purpose-built models in KTM’s lineup. So, expect an updated standard variant with alloy wheels, while this could be the top trim.
The test mule spotted not just sported wire-spoke rims but also had a reworked chassis and all-new swingarm. The changes are quite similar to the new-generation KTM 390 Duke that was spotted testing. These updates seem to have altered the riding ergonomics of the motorcycle to make it more offroad-friendly.

The new swingarm isn’t shared with its siblings. This component is unique to the 390 Adventure, primarily to increase the ground clearance. In fact, with the 21/18-inch, the ground clearance appears to have gone up compared to the current model’s 200mm.

This test mule sported the headlight and console from the current-gen model, while the front fender is straight off KTM’s Enduro lineup. Its belly pan has been from the Power Parts catalog. So, expect the final product to have some aesthetic updates as well.
KTM appears to have made no changes to the 373.2cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. The current model makes 43PS and 37Nm, and though the upcoming bike could have the same performance, the updates could result in a more engaging performance.

The new KTM 390 Adventure R is in the preliminary stage of testing and won’t make its debut before mid-2023. Spoked rims have been a demand of many enthusiasts for the 390 Adventure, and now with a hardcore ADV under development, they have a reason to rejoice. But with all the updates, expect the price of the bike to go up.
