Zero Motorcycles Unveils SR/F Naked Electric Motorcycle

Zero Motorcycles has unveiled what they claim is the next step towards the future of electric motorcycles. The all-new SR/F naked electric bike sits on a completely new platform and has all-new powertrain and electronics.

For starters, the aggressive design reminds us of Italian nakeds like the Ducati Monster and MV Agusta Brutale. The seat height is set low at 787mm. Like other high-end electric bikes, it gets an all LED headlamp and 5-inch colour TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity. A first for motorcycles is the fully connected system where the motor, battery pack, electronics and rider aids like stability control interact with each other and can be controlled via the instrument console or an app on your phone. There will be two variants on offer - SR/F Standard and SR/F Premium.

Another new addition is the Z-Force Li-Ion intelligent integrated 14.4 kWh battery pack, which when aided with regenerative deceleration, offers a claimed 260km of range in city riding conditions. You can charge the bike via a hidden port on top of the dummy tank. The Premium variant takes just 2 hours to charge upto 95 percent and 2.5 hours to charge completely. There’s also a fast charging option that uses a 6kW fastcharger and reduces full charging time to 1.5 hours (1 hour for 95 per cent).

Holding all this in place is a lightweight, steel trellis frame with a superbike-like suspension setup. Yes, the all-electric motorcycle gets a fully adjustable 43mm Showa Big Piston Separate Function Fork and a fully adjustable 40mm Showa rear monoshock with a piggyback reservoir. Tyres too are premium 17-inch Pirelli Diablo Rosso III radials. Braking duties are handled by dual 320mm discs with J-Juan 4-piston radial calipers and a radial brake master cylinder radial and a 240mm disc with single-piston J-Juan caliper at the rear. With a kerb weight of 225kg, the SR/F is quite heavy when compared it to similarly sized petrol-powered superbikes.

Given its performance and the kit on offer, the Zero ZR/F goes up against 800cc nakeds like the MV Agusta Brutale 800RR and Triumph Street Triple RS. Priced at €16,715 (Rs 13.49 lakh) for the SR/F Standard and €18,475 (Rs 14.91 lakh) for the SR/F Premium, the all-electric nakes costs about the same as exotic Italian nakeds from MV Agusta. Sadly, Zero Motorcycles has no plans of setting shop in India anytime soon.
