As we head further into 2020, more details have emerged of Citoren’s upcoming C5 Aircross SUV. This time, however, the SUV has been spotted undisguised in Cochin. This could suggest the SUV may reach Indian dealers pretty soon. It will be Citroen’s first car for India, with plans to launch one model per year after the C5 Aircross. It is likely to launch in 10 cities initially.

Exterior highlights include a split grille on the front, flanked by DRLs on either side. The lower part of the grille features horizontal slats, paired with two dual beam headlamps. The rear end is boxy with an upright tailgate and split LED tail lamps.

It will be loaded with features such as an 8-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Other bits include a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, as well as hands-free parking with front and rear parking sensors. It also gets driver assists like grip control and hill descent.

Under the hood, the international-spec C5 Aircross is powered by two petrol and two diesel engines. The petrol mills are turbocharged 1.2-litre and 1.6-litre engines, with the latter producing 180PS/250Nm. The diesel engines are 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre engines with the more powerful mill delivering 177PS/400Nm. Both engines are paired to a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Aside from launching the C5 Aircross, reports suggest Citroen is planning on 90 per cent localisation of its upcoming models in India. Prices are likely to start from Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom). The C5 Aircross will rival the likes of the Honda CR-V, MG Hector, Hyundai Tucson, and the Jeep Compass.
