UM Motorcycles made its debut in the Indian market earlier this year at the 2016 Auto Expo. The current product portfolio for the American bikemaker consist of two cruiser offerings - Renegade Sport S and the Renegade Commando. Both the bikes have received good number of booking and UM is expanding its dealership network in India. The new motorcycle manufacturer doesn’t want to restrict itself to cruiser motorcycles as we have learnt that it is planning to introduce an adventure motorcycle in the Indian market.

Speaking to ZigWheels, UM India Two Wheelers Director, Rajeev Mishra shared that the company is planning to launch a new 230-250cc adventure bike. The bike in question we feel is the Hypersport 230 which is part of its international portfolio. The UM Hypersport was also spotted testing in India which indicates further that it will be the first adventure offering from UM for India. The Hypersport has a typical dual-purpose bike styling with raised mudguard, large fuel tank extensions and petite headlamp. In the international market, the UM Hypersport is offered with three engine options and we suspect that the 230cc variant will land in India. The air-cooled, single-cylinder develops 16PS at 7,500 and peak torque of 17.7Nm at 5,500 rpm. The powerplant is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

The chassis is suspended on long travel telescopic front forks and a monoshock unit at the back. Disc brakes provide anchorage on both ends and it gets equipped with 17-inch aluminium alloy wheels. The bike rides on 110/80 R17 tyre at front and 130/70 R18 section tyre at the back. The UM Hypersport weighs 144kg and the seat height is tall at 820mm. The new adventure bike will be showcased by end of 2017 with a probable launch at the 2018 Auto Expo. Expect the UM Hypersport to be priced between Rs 1.5 and 1.8 lakh and it will compete against the Royal Enfield Himalayan.
