TVS Sherco, one of the two Indian teams present at Dakar 2017, grabbed remarkable results at the end of the 9000km-long rally. The team started with three riders, Joan Pedrero, Adrien Metge and Aravind KP. Heartbreakingly, for Aravind, the Dakar rally ended in the initial stages as he had to retire after sustaining serious injuries from multiple crashes. The remaining two riders, however, carried forward the Chennai-based manufacturer’s assault and have brought in tremendous results. Pedrero, with his invaluable eight years of Dakar experience, finished 13th overall, whereas Adrien Metge clinched 22nd overall. Notably, the latter was competing in his debut Dakar, which makes his performance all the more notable.
Both the riders saw a lot of ups and downs throughout the race, but managed to keep a steady pace to finish decently at the end of each stage. The Dakar 2017, which saw the cancellation of two stages and lot of changes to the pre-decided course, already had the toughest route finalised by the organisers. However, the riders did everything in their power to conquer the mega rally.
We hope that Aravind recovers fast from his injuries and gets on the bike as soon as possible to resume his preparations for another round of Dakar next year.
As for TVS, it has been visiting Dakar since 2015 and was the first Indian manufacturer to do so. It has had decent results in the past as well, however, this year proved to be its best outing so far. Also, it was the first time that TVS designated an Indian rider as its pilot. The company tied up with Sherco to develop, which is indicated by the team's name as well, the competition vehicle. The latter is a French off-road motorcycle racing expert and is a well-known producer of trail and endurance bikes. With the 2017 Dakar, the TVS-Sherco alliance is now three years old and seems to grow even stronger with time.
