Euro-spec third-gen Hyundai i10 set to be revealed at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show in September

  • It will continue to be called the i10 in international markets.
  • Exterior differences include sportier bumpers, circular DRLs, and split cascade grille.
  • It is likely to get near-identical interior features as the Indian spec alongside additional bits like Blue Link connect features.
  • It is expected to retain its engine options like its predecessor.

With Hyundai India all set for the launch of the new generation Grand i10 Nios on August 20, the Korean carmaker’s European division has dropped a teaser sketch of the upcoming third-gen i10. The hatchback will be named the i10 in international markets instead of the Grand i10 Nios here as the Indian-spec hatchback will launch alongside the current Grand i10 as a more premium offering.

First impressions from the teaser sketch reveals that while the Euro-spec i10 may have some similarities with its Indian cousin, like its headlights, it does look funkier. In the teaser sketch the Euro-spec i10 will get circular LED DRLs instead of the angular DRLs from the Grand i10 Nios. It also  features a more aggressive version of Hyundai’s signature cascading grille. Unlike the Nios, the i10 sports a split design for the grille. Aside from that, the front bumper is also expected to get a sportier look.

While the interiors of the Euro-spec i10 have not been revealed, we expect the cabin on the third-gen hatchback to be nearly identical to the Indian version. Some expected interior highlights in the Nios  includes cruise control, a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, twin-pod cluster with MID unit, auto climate control, and wireless charging. Hyundai has confirmed that the third-gen i10 for Europe will feature its Blue Link connected car technology like the Venue. However there is no confirmation on whether the same will be offered on the  Grand i10 Nios. The European-spec model is also expected to come with additional safety aids like driver attention warning, lane keep assist, and forward collision avoidance assist.

The Grand i10 Nios is expected to retain the 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines from the Grand i10, but they will now be BS6-compliant. The 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine delivers 83PS and 114Nm, whereas the CRDI diesel puts out 75PS and 190Nm. Both will come mated to the Smart Auto AMT from the Santro and a 5-speed MT. Technical specifications for the Euro-spec i10 haven’t been revealed yet, but we can expect it to continue with the same engine lineup as its predecessor.

Following the Grand i10’s launch, the Euro-spec third-gen i10 will be officially revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2019.
