Tata Nexon EV Gets A Minor Update

• A new set of 5-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels replace the 8-spoke design.

• Tata has eliminated the physical buttons and knobs for the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

• Prices remain between Rs 13.99 lakh and Rs 16.56 lakh (ex-showroom).

• It is an affordable alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV.

After giving the standard Nexon a minor update in May 2021, Tata Motors has now made the same changes to its all-electric counterpart, the Nexon EV. That being said, prices of the electric sub-4 metre SUV remain unchanged, ranging from Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 16.56 lakh (ex-showroom). Let's get down to what’s changed in the Nexon EV.

The first change is on the outside, with a simpler set of 5-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels replacing the earlier 8-spoke design. These wheels are only offered on the mid-spec XZ+ and the top-spec XZ+ Lux while the base-spec XM soldiers on with steel rims.  

The other update is on the inside inside. Tata has done away with physical buttons namely: Home, Favourites, Previous, Next, Smartphone, and Back, as well as volume and tuner knobs for the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It has been replaced by simple Nexon lettering. 

Aside from that, the Nexon continues to feature i-RA connected car technology, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Harman sound system, a sunroof, a digital instrument display, and cruise control. Passenger safety is taken care of  by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera, and electronic stability control. 

Under the hood, the Nexon EV is powered by a 129PS/245Nm electric motor that drives the front wheels. Through our tests, the electric SUV could do the 0-100kmph sprint in 9.58 seconds (Sport mode). The motor is juiced up by a 30.2kWh battery that helps the Nexon EV offer an ARAI-claimed 312km range. It also supports fast charging with a DC fast charger juicing it up to 80 percent in an hour.  

 

While the Nexon EV doesn’t have any direct rivals in the country yet, Mahindra will launch the all-electric XUV300 in 2022. Until then, it's an affordable alternative to the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric
