The Ninja H2 SX will be the first ever supercharged production tourer

A few days ago Kawasaki had teased us with a supercharged bike slated for debut at the 2017 EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy. However, more details have surfaced indicating that the culprit might be the Ninja H2 SX, a supercharged tourer. Yes, you read that right.

Just like the name suggests, the Ninja H2 SX will be based on the Ninja H2, which uses a 998cc 4-cylinder, liquid-cooled, supercharged engine to make 210PS of power and 133.5Nm of torque. It should be noted that the super-tourer will be the first production tourer to be equipped with a supercharger.

According to MCN’s sources, the engineers at Kawasaki have remapped the engine of the Ninja H2, to deliver around 202PS of power, and unlike the H2, the supercharged touring bike will be more focused on delivering a good mid range performance and better fuel efficiency. It will use variable intake vanes to alter the airflow into the supercharger, in order to increase low-end torque and efficiency, rather than offering a punchy power output like the Ninja H2.

When it comes to the rest of the bike, we can expect it to have every sort of Kawasaki electronic wizardry, like the six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU), cornering ABS, traction control and anti-wheelie. As it is a touring bike at heart, we can also expect to see a full TFT dash, an integrated sat nav functionality, heated grips and seats, media connectivity, keyless ignition and multiple rider modes.

The power-touring segment is also about to witness more action with the updated version of the Honda Gold Wing, and the BMW K1600GTL, which, to an extent, will put pressure on Kawasaki to play its cards right. So, it remains to be seen if the new Ninja H2 SX will prove to be the company’s ace or deuce.
