Skoda is counting down to the official unveil of its first-ever RS-badged SUV. Set to be displayed at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, the Kodiaq RS will also debut a new identity for the brand RS. And that, comes in the form of an updated insignia. The ‘v’ is now finished in blood red, which Skoda says stands for ‘the sportiness and power of the RS family’. Coming to the SUV itself, the teaser points towards the usual friendly-neighbourhood Kodiaq with an extra shot of muscle. Interestingly, the Kodiaq RS in the teaser image wears a different set of alloy wheels compared to the one that set a record at the Nurburgring.

Ah, the Nurburgring record! Yes, this big plump diesel SUV does hold a record at the Green Hell. It’s the fastest seven-seater to ever go around the 20.8km-long track. The official record stands at 9:29:84, which, we must admit, is pretty darn impressive. What made the record possible is the most powerful diesel engine to be ever plonked into a Skoda.

We’re talking about the 2.0-litre BiTDi engine from Volkswagen that develops an impressive 239PS of power and 500Nm of torque. The twin-turbocharged diesel motor is paired with a dual-clutch transmission that sends the horses to all four wheels. On multiple occasions, Skoda has confirmed that the SUV used to set the record wasn’t specially prepped in any way. It’s identical to the production version of the Kodiaq RS that will go on sale globally before the end of this year.
