Nissan attributes the raise to ‘challenging market conditions’

  • Prices set to go up from January 2020.
  • Challenging market conditions and rising cost of production have necessitated the hike.
  • Meanwhile, the ‘Red Weekends’ initiative continues with a range of offers on Nissans and Datsuns.

Nissan Motor India has announced that the prices of all Nissan and Datsun cars will be hiked by up to 5 per cent from January 2020. The company attributes the increment to ‘challenging market conditions’ and ‘increased costs’. Nissan’s announcement follows Hyundai’s declaration of a price hike due to rising raw material costs. You can read our story about it here. Meanwhile, the Japanese carmaker started a ‘Red Weekends’ initiative last Friday, offering benefits to Nissan and Datsun buyers. Internationally, Nissan Motor Company is gaining composure after the Carlos Ghosn scandal earlier this year. With Makoto Uchida at its helm, the global carmaker is attempting to shrink its operations. An earlier announcement about Datsun laid Indian buyers’ fears to rest. But how will the company cope in the face of the upcoming BS6 norms and crash regulations?

Speaking about the carmaker’s plans, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, Rakesh Srivastava, said, “Nissan is committed to offering innovative and exciting products under the Nissan and Datsun brand with the best value proposition to its customers in India. In the current challenging market conditions, we are constrained to increase the price of all Nissan and Datsun models due to increased costs. The proposed price increase will be effective from January 2020.
