Skoda is all-set to launch its third generation Octavia model here in India, and after its official launch in August this year, the Laura will continue in the Skoda India line-up with an all new Octavia making its return to prominence

The production version of the new Octavia has been on everyone's mind ever since Skoda unveiled the car before a global audience at the new Skoda museum at Mlada Boleslav on the outskirts of Prague. [Update: New Skoda Octavia production begins in India]

What started as the Mission L concept back in 2010 has certainly shaped up nicely into what is now the India bound third generation Octavia sedan. Design boss Jozef Kaban’s handiwork sports an exterior that has a finely styled look devoid of any adornments or embellishments (Read : New Skoda Octavia sings to life).

The new Octavia has grown in length and width yet has more cabin space; weight has been lopped off with intelligent through the use of high-strength steels to slash the flab without sacrificing the rigidity of the basic structure. Skoda claims that its third gen Octavia has more headroom, elbow room and leg space not just for the front occupants but also for the back benchers.

The new Octavia range in India is likely to continue with the same proven mills already doing duty in the present Laura and Jetta models. Throw in features like automatic high beam headlights, automatic lane guidance, an emergency city braking system and adaptive drive modes and what you have is a very safe and technologically superior vehicle in its proven class of competitors.
