How does the upcoming MPV look? What features could it get? And should you choose it over the 7-seater?

Maruti Suzuki is set to launch its second and probably more fitting rival to the Mahindra Marazzo on August 21, and it will be called the XL6. The MPV is based on the successful Ertiga MPV, but has received many updates to make it look and feel different. The crossover was spied for the first time testing a month ago and since then, more spy shots of the upcoming MPV have surfaced.  How does it look, what does it pack, how much grunt does it have and how much would it cost? Here are some key points to know about the XL6 ahead of its launch.

Exterior:

Since the XL6 is based on the MPV, many would think this is a next-gen Ertiga. However,as we’ve seen in recent spy pics, it is not entirely the case. It may have similar body panels and taillamps, but the XL6 is completely revised. The front end comes with an upright nose, a flatter hood design, a new grille, and more angular headlights with LED DRLs. The ride height also looks to have been raised and the MPV receives plastic cladding all around with wider wheel arches and roof rails. The rear bumper also features a different treatment with larger black cladding and a faux diffuser. The XL6 is also expected to get black alloy wheels in higher variants.

Interior:

Inside, the XL6 is expected to get a captain seat arrangement, which should make it a 6-seater MPV as compared to the 7-seater Ertiga. The beige cabin from the Ertiga is expected to be replaced with an all-black finish for the XL6.

While Maruti has not revealed details on what the XL6 could pack, we expect it to get Maruti Suzuki’s SmartPlay Studio infotainment system, which made its debut in the Baleno hatchback. The infotainment system is expected to feature  a 7.0-inch touchscreen display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay among other premium features.

Power:

Under the hood, the XL6 is expected to be powered only by the 1.5-litre Smart Hybrid motor from the Ertiga, which makes 103PS and 138Nm of torque. With the BS6 norms coming into effect in 2020, the XL6 is unlikely to feature the 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel motor currently sold in the Ertiga, which makes 95PS of power and 225Nm of peak torque. We expect the 1.5-litre petrol to be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Price:

We expect the XL6 to be launched at a price range between Rs 7.45 lakh and 11.21 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Rivals:

Post its 21st August launch, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 is expected to take on the likes of the Mahindra Marazzo and the Renault Lodgy in the Indian market.
